A party, a gathering.. It is always nice to be in
the company of kids, but flip side, the scariest part is to have a chat with a
child when surrounded by our folks! Isn't it? Some of us did go through this.
Reason being, I am subjected to any time embarrassment (ATE). The child is
never going to screen the queries nor I am going to know that I will be a
scapegoat for its new-age curiosity. But, the moment a delicate question
arises, before I retort, I look around - first, checking if someone else has
heard it!, second, if so, I give that bewildered smile - a smile I myself would
not want to see! Don't you agree?
Unwinding, there is something hidden within today's
sprouts which makes them to think, talk, behave and finally ask as adults. I
see them as miniature adults. This is visually provable through the reality
shows and from the feelings they emote. An awkward question is not something he
or she has been wanting to strike. Letting kids be kids is a trick for
grown-ups and I feel we are way far too beyond from start of this enigma. Commentary
on such an upsurge evolution as unnatural is unnatural!!!
Unfortunately, I faced such a situation at a
retail market. Me and my husband met a friend and his 5-6 year old son there.
As time zipped, my husband and his friend were having some serious talks, while
me, knowing all repercussions of jumping into a conversation with a kid,
volunteered chatting with the tiny little brat. We did discuss lots and I was
happy explaining things to him and I was in fact, on my way to change my
mindset of this ATE with a kid - There a
question! He asked, "Do you have kids?". "No", I replied.
He immediately countered, "Marry and you'll have kids!" Blown away
and with that distinctive smile (the one I mentioned earlier) I said, "I
am married". He didn't give up. Looking at my husband, he buzzed,
"Then do you have one in your tummy?"!!!
All I could do then was to pray God to end my
husband's discussion and make a move! If you have not faced it before, check
out next time! It's a wonderful feeling - and you won't get this elsewhere!
In a recent chat show, I heard a doctor comment,
"When two educated human beings get hitched - the progeny is going to be
wonderful". True! Today's kids are
super smart. They definitely know much more than us - anytime. We stand proud
when our children teach us on activating a conference call, but takes time to
digest that the same little tot knows to go online on Skype and chat on IM's. This
feel is not due to the generation gap! But, a new-age drift where we were and
are silent observers!
May be, this could be the actual price we pay
for our gadgets, tech stuffs etc., we get through deals, discounts and all the
festive offers! None to blame - the world will take care of this fast fading
child's innocence and probably you just can help yourself to have a pleasant
face the next time a kid bombards you with a quest!
